May the Fourth Be With You!
Happy Star Wars Day (or Luke Skywalker Day) everybody! I remember growing up as child and seeing the movie for the very first time. I was enchanted. The neighborhood kids (who had an above ground deck perfect for replicating the Millenium Falcon) and I would recreate the movie scenes in our backyards as our daily ritual. I would always play the part of Princess Leia, which also earned me my nickname for the majority of my youth as I have been told I resemble Carrie Fisher.
As fate may have it, I have come to discover that today, May 4th, is considered an unofficial holiday by Star Wars fans and a call for the celebration of everything Star Wars. The holiday was dubbed in 2005 after a mistranslation by a German news channel who interpreted the George Lucas quote as “Mai sind wir bei Ihnen” or “We are with you on May 4” resulting in the Star Wars holiday.
As I was doing research into this unknown holiday, well at least to me… I stumbled upon the religious doctrine of the Jedi Church complete with Jedi marriages performed by Jedi ministers! Jediism is considered to be a post-modern religious movement based on the philosophical and spiritual ideas of the Jedi depicted in Star Wars. As farfetched as the church may seem, their doctrine really is not too space-aged. The Jedi Religious Faith believes that there is one all powerful force that binds all things in the universe together. They believe that the Jedi religion is something innate inside every one of us; as is our sense of morality, and therefore we should quiet our minds and listen to the force within ourselves. Their aim is to bring all of the world’s believers in the force together for the power of good. The Jedi Church does not have bias or prejudices and accepts all races and species from all over the universe as potential members of the religion. They profess themselves to be a good force in the universe. They thrive on positivity which for them represents the light side of the force.
Star Wars Day is commonly celebrated by fellow Star Wars-obsessed enthusiasts throwing parties where they bring light sabers and Star Wars-themed toys, provide lots of snacks, and watch the Star Wars series in succession. Star Wars Day 2011 has even sparked rumors that Blue Ray will release ‘Star Wars: The Complete Saga‘.

It’s star wars day. May the force be with you all! Well, just the twelve who felt obliged to follow me.
we had the great swords – the magical sound of zittttz-zzzittttzzzz–with the beautiful light show. It was the best of times. Always wining the war in the stars with the most powerful sword.
Light sabers were absolutely essential in recreating the fighting scenes!
When I was younger I had this great shirt with a Princess Leia graphic on it. I loved it until my cat peed all over it.
Darn cat anyway–lol
I bought a belt for my brother, he is fan of Darth Vader
