Many moons ago I used to play the upright bass in an orchestra. I was actually a decent musician and traded my classical instrument in for an electric bass guitar. Perhaps my inner musician was inspired by my family ties and indirect genetic relations toNew York Philharmonic Orchestra conductor Leonard Bernstein, or so I would like to think. Sadly, as I got older, went off to college and began working my bass guitar got left behind. When I think about it, I often regret letting that hobby go, and I think about picking it back up again.
Whether you realize it or not, there is a little music in everyone. Anyone can take up music and everyone can get an enormous amount of pleasure and benefit from learning an instrument. If you approach learning an instrument in the right way, and you can gain experience that will last a lifetime.
Playing a musical instrument makes you smarter. According to Lutz Jäncke, a psychologist at the University of Zurich, “Learning to play a musical instrument has definite benefits and can increase IQ by seven points, in both children and adults.” Learning to play an instrument helps the mind to be alert and remain active, helping to sharpen the memory.
Playing a musical instrument is a stress reliever. Music is one of life’s simple pleasures and can help calm the mind. Not only is it fun, but playing music can be rewarding and bring a sense of achievement. Who knows, maybe you will discover a hidden talent and wind up playing professionally.
If you are thinking about picking up an instrument, the most popular choice is the guitar. Technology has come a long way and Fretlight Guitars have used this to their advantage, taking the frustration out of learning a new instrument, and making the learning experience enjoyable. Fretlight Guitars are Smart Guitars with a built-in learning system. On a Fretlight Guitars, visual cues are provided through lights that appear beneath the guitar’s fingerboard. Fretlight Guitar’s software contains a set of applications and training exercises designed to teach everything from guitar tuning to music theory. In addition to teaching basics skills, the lessons include a glossary of musical terminology and an explanation of basic music theory. Each lesson is broken down into individual objectives and exercises that are fully interactive and use the fret lights to translate the instruction provided into an impossible-to-misunderstand visual model.
The Fretlight Guitars makes learning to play easy and fun for everyone. Beginners have the opportunity to learn easy riffs quickly and intermediate to advanced players can improve their playing by learning more theory and taking their skills to a whole new level.

Good – I should certainly say I’m impressed with your website. I had no trouble navigating through all the tabs as well as related info. It ended up being truly simple to access. Nice job…
I guess I should have clarified that I was a child when I was taking those lessons and it was a parent-teacher confab that ended the lessons. What I pour myself into now is jewelry design and creation. It’s on a temporary hold until my house repairs from Katrina are finished which will be done sometime this year. That’s when I can move ahead with dreams…and I can’t WAIT!
Thank you both for the encouragement! I really did put the website in my *Wish List* folder…..wayyyyy up at the top, too! lol
I am curious to see your jewelry design… what kind of things do you create?
Promise you will try Pamela, I play the clarinet, piano, guitar, sax, and alto.None very good but it was a childhood dream of my mothers. So someone had to. The best times is when family gets together and we jam out. Our whole family loves it and it just makes us closer.Non of us are great, but it does lead to much fun.
LOVE IT!!! We never had a family jam session… just me driving my mother insane with the volume on my stereo! That and my family had to suffer through agonizing hours of bass parctice. The upright bass probably was not so bad until I traded it in for the electric and heavier music! Ahhh… those were the days!
Ok, first, I love love LOVE the picture of the mouse….that is just adorable. But then I do love rodents in general….domestic ones, that is.
I used to play piano and clarinet….neither very well, though….which is why I stopped….no amount of practice ever seemed to move me forward. But maybe those just weren’t the instruments for me. I started to learn guitar once but some brutal words from my VERY accomplished musical (ex) husband quickly put a stop to that. Even though I wanted to learn, I never took lessons because after that because….well….the combination of me, the guitar and another human being was just someplace I couldn’t go. But I might try again with this new technology because I could do it by myself! I’m actually pretty excited to see this and I just added it to my wish list.
I say, DO IT! I think its great to pour yourself into something that lets you unwind and can help make you feel good about doing it. Even if you don’t sound like Jimi Hendrix at first. We all need our goals and perhaps practice doesn’t make perfect, but we can always try! I say go for it Pamela! I think this guitar is pretty darn cool!
