April 15th, normally a day most US taxpayers dread, has been reserved for the celebration of Emancipation Day.  Emancipation Day is the day that Abe Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act. The Act freed 3,100 slaves in the District of Columbia, making DC residents the “first freed” by the federal government.  Normally, Emancipation Day is celebrated on the 16^th, but this year it falls on a Saturday and state employees couldn’t live without having a Friday off.  So, Tax Day has officially been moved to April 18^th giving all you late filers an additional 3 days to enjoy your weekend before handing over your hard earned money to Uncle Sam.
